Welcome to Life In the MotherShip!
Mama, I’m so glad you’ve joined us!
I’m Alycia. Jesus Girl. Wife of Victor. Mama of 6 awesome kids (step, bio, and foster/adopted) + 3 fur babies.
In my day job, I coach new writers who need help getting started on their writing journey and use my mad editing skills to help their stories stand out in the crowd. I also craft for my Etsy shop, Story Inspirations.
And in my other job, I feed and parent three young adults and let the dogs in and out of the house too many times in a day.
I blog here at Life In the MotherShip about the complexities of faith, life’s joys and heartbreaks, and the beauty of family relationships. My hope is to help you find peace and joy in the chaos and grief of everyday motherhood.
Come pull up a seat, grab your go-to drink (no judgement here), and let’s hold sacred space together!

No One Came To My Son’s Birthday Party
My youngest turned six on a sunny Sunday in 2010. Like a good mom, I sent out birthday party invitations to his eight friends, asking them to join us at the park for a celebration. I spent time and money (and requested my husband to postpone his plans) preparing for...
What To Pack In a Diaper Bag
You're about to take your newborn baby out for the first time. Packing the diaper bag for this event is a bit different than packing for the trip home from the hospital. If you're a new mom, you may have no clue what you need in that bag, other than diapers and wipes....
12 School Supplies To Keep In Stock
Do you love the back-to-school season as much as I do? Other than Christmas, Easter, and my birthday, this is one of my favorite times of the year ... especially for shopping. As soon as the notebooks, pens, pencils, and folders hit the shelves, I find myself drawn to...
Marriage Newsflash: It Takes Hard Work
Marriage, like any relationship, takes hard work. It's really easy to say you love someone. It's a lot harder to do it. Because love is an action - a verb. Not a feeling or emotion. It's something we choose to do regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in....
